Our history
Since the end of the 1970s, Espace Loggia has been offering innovative and sustainable furnishing solutions. Thanks to our modular furniture, which combine sleeping, living and storage space, thousands of families have seen their daily lives simplified. A look back at a wonderful family history, rooted in designer furniture and French know-how.

A pioneer in modular furniture
1979: Lifestyles have changed, and the French aspire to greater optimization and comfort. Actress Mijanou Bardot joins forces with a group of designers to introduce the concept of the mezzanine bed for adults. The revolutionary idea was to add several square meters of height to floor space, by raising the sleeping area one floor! It was the beginning of a new vision of living, opening up new horizons for interior architecture. Espace Loggia was born, and began equipping homes with its raised wooden beds.

Innovation made in France for space optimization
1992: Philippe Malignac takes over the company and has big plans for it. To revitalize sales, he relied on two pillars: innovation and the relocation of production. The factory moved to La Ferté-Saint-Aubin, in the Loiret region of France. This decision was prompted by the desire to control the entire production chain, using high-performance machines, top-of-the-range materials and skilled employees. The design office diversifies Espace Loggia’s offering by adding wall cabinetscabinets shelvingshelving built-in drawers and desks in the catalog. But the real revolution came with the invention of retractable beds Why not suspend the bed from the ceiling?

The golden age of the space-saving bed
2001: Espace Loggia begins working with international designers, who bring their innovative vision to projects. Guillaume Parent, the pope of transversal architecture, finds simple answers to French people’s problems. Those who live in big cities try to optimize small surfaces, and in medium-sized towns, they look for more modular furniture. After stepping on his son’s Lego bricks, Philippe Malignac came up with a range of modular storage units, Brick It, which allows cubes to be assembled to create staircases, benches or intelligent desks.

Installation in the heart of the Vendée basin
2002: Espace Loggia moves from the Centre to the Pays de la Loire region, and buys a factory in Les Herbiers, in the industrial heart of the Vendée. The 4,000m2 production unit is staffed by men and women selected for their talent and their shared desire to participate in an ambitious project: to manufacture furniture that is French, durable and profitable! Espace Loggia furniture is made from solid wood and MDF, allowing a wide range of finishes and colors to be customized. From furniture design to installation on the customer’s premises, the brand sets itself apart from its mass-market competitors by offering a high-end, made-to-measure, solid product.

Innovation, industrial craftsmanship and understanding new lifestyles
2010: Paul Malignac takes over the reins of the family business at the age of 30, having worked alongside his father for many years. Attentive to the expectations of his generation and the market, he takes an interest in new lifestyles: in 2013, Espace Loggia commissions a study from IPSOS entitled « Les Français et l’aménagement de leur habitat ». It revealed that blended families often need to change the bedroom from one week to the next, as the children come and go; students and young professionals need solutions to fit out their workspace and bedroom in the same place; grandparents are looking for evolving furniture to welcome their grandchildren during the vacations. It’s also the beginning of the Airbnb and telecommuting era. With a thorough understanding of the market, Espace Loggia was able to propose furnishings to suit these new uses. Fruitful collaborations then began with designer Matali Crasset, the VIA (Valorisation de l’Innovation dans l’Ameublement) research platform, the Faltazi Lab team, Nosigner and the Ligne Roset brand. The number of stores and shop-in-shops grows throughout France.

A more agile, more human, more creative organization
The 2010s also mark a major transition in corporate organization. Gone is the vertical hierarchy, replaced by a horizontal, collaborative model, where trust is the driving force behind efficiency. Here, everyone contributes according to their skills, not their title, and fluid initiative-taking is encouraged, in the office as in the factory.
Paul Malignac embodies an authentic approach to diversity and inclusion. The only thing that counts is the willingness to surround ourselves with motivated, proactive and committed minds. Results: 2/3 of our employees are women! This philosophy drives a new creative dynamic, where everyone feels legitimate and empowered.

Advances in new technologies
2014 : The Espace Loggia factory is completely renovated to absorb the increase in orders, which average 3,000 per year. The family-run company succeeds in growing without compromising, and enters the digital age true to its values. Espace Loggia’s consultants accompany each customer’s project in 3D, and customers can visualize their projects using the Loggiatek configurator. Dklé or triptyque? Automatic or manual retractable bed? Ceiling height, wall cupboards, integrated light fittings: each model is created to the measurements of the room, and customers can then see their project come to life in-store to benefit from dedicated advice.
In 2017, the company took R&D a step further by launching the first prototype of a connected bed designed for a university campus. A real technological feat, this model is equipped with wear sensors to optimize maintenance and anticipate repairs even before a problem occurs.
